Application Platform Strategies Overview

Microsoft takes declarative programming to new heights and depths with .NET 3.0 and Windows Vista. The Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) underpins this growing aspect of .NET applications and facilitates the creation of domain-specific languages (DSLs). New tools and streamlined design practices have emerged in support of XAML-based programming, and .NET development shops need to pay close attention. In this report, Burton Group Analyst Chris Howard explores the mechanics of XAML in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) and its implications for enterprise software development.
