Burton Group Catalyst Conference: Cloud Single Sign-On Interop Demo

Salt Lake City, June 15, 2009 – Burton Group’s Catalyst Conference North America 2009 will be the host of the single sign-on interoperability demonstration for cloud applications July 27-31 in San Diego, CA.

SaaS and cloud-based applications are the trend in utilizing off-premise applications and will continue to be a key topic for enterprises. In response to this trend Burton Group is hosting a single sign-on (SSO) Interoperability Demo: SSO for Cloud-Based Applications, Wednesday night, July 29th. Instead of requiring a password for every off-premise application, this demo will illustrate how standards such as SAML, WS-Federation, OpenID, and others can be utilized. Participants in the demo will represent a broad range of technology providers, SaaS application providers, Internet properties, and social software sites. Several hosted or SaaS application participants include SalesForce.com, Google Apps, eXpresso Corp, WebEx, will more to come.

Interop participants have agreed upon the base scenario for the demo. In this case, identity provider instances will demonstrate single sign-on to several application environments – using SAML, WS-Federation and OpenID. Where supported, identity providers will also demonstrate just in time provisioning of user access. There will be an advanced scenario is being developed that combines SAML 2.0 and OpenID to meet NIST’s Level 1 through Level 3 identity assurance guidelines. This scenario is being built around a sample application, led by JanRain.

“As more applications move off-premise and into the cloud, single sign-on and other identity management approaches must embrace a very distributed application landscape,” said Gerry Gebel, VP & Service Director at Burton Group. “The interoperability demonstration at Catalyst this year highlights the maturity of federation protocols by including live SaaS application environments such as SalesForce, Google Apps, WebEx, eXpresso and others utilizing SAML, WS-Federation and other protocols.”
